Circe Upon the Arrival of Odysseus

Circe upon the arrival of Odysseus (2026).

Meeting between Circe and Odysseus at the palace gate, surrounded by the animals into which the sorceress has transformed the traveler's companions.

Created for the article Between Penelope and Circe: Women in The Odyssey, by Reyes Bertolín Cebrián (University of Calgary).

    Sketchs.

As an interesting detail, I decided to adorn the scabbard of Odysseus's sword by adapting the design of the magnificent Mycenaean daggers often referred to as the "Lion Daggers" (or "Lion-Hunt Daggers"):

Mycenaean bronze daggers with gold and silver inlay (Aegean Bronze Age, dated between 1550 and 1500 BC).
They are currently on display at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.
