The eques is a type of gladiator who rides a horse, although here we can see him dismounted, his face covered with a closed helmet. He also covers his right arm (in which he holds his sword, a gladius) with a manica, while in his left he carries a parma (a medium-sized, round cavalry shield), and his legs are protected with greaves.
