Sofonisba, primera esposa de Asdrúbal el Bello, hija de Amílcar Barca y hermana de Aníbal Barca, se enfrenta a su marido (con «una poderosa impresión de majestad herida, de dignidad asediada»), sintiéndose vejada por sus últimas decisiones políticas y personales (por desgracia, para familias como la suya era difícil desentrelazar las unas de las otras), y a su detestable consejero Zekárbal, sumo sacerdote de Eshmún y maestro implacable de intrigas y secretos.

As chance would have it (or whatever we want to call this serendipity) the most important day for the closing of the approach to this scene appeared again on my television (sometimes, instead of with music, or in silence, I work with the company of a film in the background) Zorba the Greek. And whit him, Irene Papas, who was for me, honestly, the initial visual inspiration for this Sophonisba for so many things, although she continued to evolve later towards other nuances out of a clear need for her own identity. But Sofonisba will always owe (and I will) something to the extraordinary Papas' essence.
